What's wrong with the title? Seems 100% accurate, and the article itself was well quoted to demonstrate it.

Sad to see it go, has been by RSS reader for many years and haven't found a replacement that does multi-column like they do.

Is it the same? I can't understand the tedious biz jargon https://www.3ds.com/products/netvibes/3dexperience-netvibes

Yes, same company. Appears they really like the name and want to repurpose it for something shinier.

It seems that many don't realize at least Samsung and LG both have an option (albeit buried deep in the menu structure) to turn off the smart TV functionality. One of the first things I did on my new set. It now powers up set to a single input and my AppleTV takes it from there.

Where is that option for LG TVs? I don't think I've ever seen it, but my LG TV is a few years old now so it might not have it yet.

Awarded you a point for this top tip. Really hate my samsung tv’s software. Because of that I use an apple tv to control it anyways.

Sounds like I'm hunting through menus on the weekend....

I tried it out with docs from my last refi. Tried both PDF and PNG files, both returned "An error occurred with processing your document. Please confirm you uploaded a valid Loan Estimate or Closing Disclosure PDF."

I also at first didn't notice there is action needed to choose between uploading a Loan Estimate vs Closing Disclosure. It doesn't seem insurmountable to have the site automatically figure out the difference between those two.

You're right. I just haven't gotten around to figuring out the document type automatically even though it should be straightforward to implement.

There are many reasons the document will fail processing, it's usually because the wrong document type was selected or the original pdf from the lender has been modified. Sometimes, users upload a document they received which is just random text in a pdf they received as a pre-offer from a mortgage broker or lender.

Nice to meet you Joe Blow. My name is John Jacobs, Vandelay Industries.

What do you use for a capture device? I'm currently using a Tivo Roamio (with lifetime subscription) and love it, but it's at least 7-8 years old so thinking about what's next. Only real complaint is remote viewing needs a really solid connection and sometimes just doesn't work.

Also a regular Plex user so would like something that integrates with it to handle antenna / live recording.

HD Homerun Flex 4K

I got it because it can stream to more than one person simultaneously (although I haven't tested it thoroughly yet).

There's supposedly some issues with the newer encodings and Jellyfin itself (just watch any video on YT that talks about the HD Homerun Flex 4K and Jellyfin), but it's all good for me so far. I don't know if Plex users are affected.

I was able to pick up 41 channels, but I only got a 70 mile antenna, and the big cities are much further away, so I'm happy with it.

Great idea, I would also regularly use this with a few tweaks:

1) Main one - Separate stories more clearly. Maybe slightly outdent, enlarge, or bold the title, or add a little more space between stories so they don't all run together.

2) Some articles don't have content available for no apparent reason (Deciphering Mary Stuart’s lost letters from 1578-1584)

3) Filters would be nice (articles >rating, comment count, etc)

4) Collect a few more pages of articles instead of just one

Thank you for trying it out and the feedback.

1) I have increased the spacing between stories. Also, have you tried the Mobile view?

2) Looks like some websites are harder to parse than others. Some users have also reported similar issues with GitHub/Gists. Will investigate.

3) I've removed the rating for now. Will add filters to the roadmap.

4) I'm currently showing all 30 articles from the HN frontpage. Would you prefer fewer articles, but paginated?

#1 - Yes, much better!

For #4, I expected it work more like HN does, where it shows 30 articles but has a more button to get 31-60 and so on. At least 3 pages would be nice for those of us who keep reading past the first page.

After using a 3rd gen for 8 years, I just replaced my Nest 3rd gens with Ecobee Premiums. Used to be a proud Nest user, they even shaped my choice of a new home HVAC system to be something compatible. However, they (and their software) haven't changed since I bought them, they are stuck in 2015. Meanwhile Ecobee has been producing beautiful hardware and software that has not only caught up but surpassed the 5+ year headstart that Google/Nest squandered.

Also read Build and I'm sure Tony is just sad at seeing the opportunity lost as Nest becomes a shell of itself.

We got Ecobees as part of an HVAC overhaul; they're nice and it's impressive how many situations they handle out of the box, whereas we had to run a new wire to get the (pre-Google) Nest to work correctly when it was already supposed to work with our existing setup. I do have issues with the software, though: we have two zones and it just doesn't handle that situation conveniently. (I don't know how the Nest would have done because we had only one zone with it.)

> Meanwhile Ecobee has been producing beautiful hardware and software that has not only caught up but surpassed the 5+ year headstart that Google/Nest squandered.

Ecobee released their first smart thermostat 3 years prior to the first Nest Thermostat. (Not that that's a fault, I've been a happy ecobee user for years.)

I emailed Ecobee years ago if they were available here in the Netherlands and if they were considering it. They said they were looking at it...

It's a shame, Fadell was right to go into the thermostat market. Honeywell still has nothing that looks nice, and, according to the reviews, nothing that functions well. The stuff that comes with HVAC systems are generally expensive but cheap feeling and imho ugly.

In the EU all manufacturers have to support OpenTherm, an open standard, so you'd think this is a big homogeneous market to enter...

Ecobee was one of my first choices indeed, nice stuff. Sadly they don't serve the EU, and they have (consequently) no OpenTherm options.

Regardless of the passionate feelings against Spotify, it's hard to dispute their basic premise that Apple is deliberately creating a bad user experience just to preserve their walled content garden.

The same thing applies to not being able to buy a book using the Amazon app. It's ridiculous and there is no valid argument against it other than greed. Not a fan of overregulation, but in this area I can't wait for Apple to be reined in.

Spotify could just implement IAP. It's simple and has a great user experience.

Seems like this is more about Spotify wanting to benefit from the channel without paying for it.

IAP take a 30% cut, which is unreasonable on things like audiobook

Yes, there should be a law that hardware that the user paid for cannot be tethered by the manufacturer. Otherwise it is a service, not a product.

The problem isn't that Apple forces IAP. The problem is that they have the outrageous cut of 30% (or even 15%). Apples IAP is awesome. Their greed is not.
