Nah, 98SE was a clear improvement over the base 98.

While I in no way endorse whatever batshit insane things Trump is doing, I don't think the US has issued a declaration of war since WW2. Declarations of war have been quite rare internationally in general since the end of WW2 outside of a few examples.

Do you seriously believe that the German spelling reforms were done to "drive the Germanic people away from each other"? If so that's quite the insane conspiracy theory you got yourself there. And lmao at "Anglican German".

They really take the piss, even supposedly essential cookies get lumbered with hundreds of "partners" with "legitimate interests" harvesting your data.

Contrary to popular belief, not every single square inch of the UK is covered by state operated CCTV.

This is sovereign citizen level nonsense.

Is it really though? Why are the courts so inundated with crime that this is happening in the first place? Are there uncomfortable truths not being talked about? Is that the reason why?

The partial closure of parts of the criminal justice system during COVID led to a backlog which in turn appears to have pushed the system to a point it has been unable to properly recover from - there are some very interesting statistics here [0].

As to why that is - the explanations I've seen generally feature incompetence amongst various parts of the system and a degree of underfunding (or perhaps poorly managed funding) - including the fact that there is a shortage of criminal barristers due to poor pay. Juries themselves don't seem to be cited as a huge problem.

I thought this was going to be about the Comics Code Authority.

I know this is hacker news but you do get all sorts posted here, that's my excuse.

Meanwhile I've been watching a lot of standup lately and so my brain went to "video of person roasting the code review process".

I would suspect there's lots of overlap between the comic book collector/reader and hacker demographics anyway.

You weren't the only one.

As usual, generalising all of Europe based on your individual country is a mistake as there are some Euro counties where comics are quite popular. France, Belgium, Italy and the UK all have thriving native comic book industries, and I have Swedish friends who tell me Donald Duck comics are very popular there.

I imagine a pristine 1st edition Tintin or Asterix would be quite valuable.

I wouldn't say comics are really popular in France. But we may have different interpretations of what comics are, as I don't consider "bandes dessinées" (e.g. Tintin) as comics.

As an avid reader of BDs, I would agree with you, but for the purpose of this discussion, and for the general public, these two are indistinguishable. Even to the actual translation, which is (pardon my rusty French) somewhere in the ballpark of "cartoon strips".

What makes you think the copyright has expired?

Probably confused 2024 with 2034, when it will actually expire.
