Nothing new here. In NY state you have to send in your Article of Organization to the NYS Division of Corps. You then receive a confirmation mailing which you have to turn around and send in to the NYS Dept. of Taxation, so they, you know, know you exist to tax. Durr! The state already knows it exists, it just registered it, why am I playing mailboy and shuffling mail between two departments which are probably within walking distance of each other!
while there may in fact be such a correlation, after skimming this "paper" it appears to be mostly philosophical rambling and armchair musings, very little data, no graphs or charts or analyses showing correlation, etc., just citations of other papers.
if you don't want to be treated like cattle stop accepting it. opt-out every time. every time i have, they have asked if i wanted a private screening, and in fact the personnel that performed the "pat down" was always very professional. i never wanted a private screen since i'm pretty comfortable in public, and if they were going to do anything embarrassing to me or themselves, I do want it out and public so everybody can see how their fellow citizen is being treated. let's disregard that this pat down is also demeaning and pointless. but at least you can just say no to the automatic total recall porno scanning. i don't give a fuck who hears me opt out, or if it interrupts the line (which it doesn't), or their jobs (tiniest violin playing). the first time i did they even seemed to make a show by calling it out, but i think it's probably just because they have to yell for the pat-down dude to come over and do it.
I don't even get what the issue is. People have a problem that she even wrote this? I wrote something similar because there IS no standard replace tool along the lines of grep. Sed is awful (it's essentially impossible) for multiline expressions for example. Could this really be penis measuring because people think they are so cool that they know unix commands exist? Congratulations, you have turn invocations of a simple, convenient tool into a shitpile trainwreck of find and sed. Golf claps for infinity.
meh, other than bus factor this seems overblown to me. I use Gnome3 on Fedora and it is great. It takes advantage of Fitts law and there is just less fuck-around-ability with it. (I thought even the Alt-to-PowerOff controversy was overblown; I suspend far more often then I shut down, this is a welcome simplification) If anything I felt Gnome3 had ushered in a renaissance in Gnome. What "new" goals does Gnome have to have other than creating a great desktop?
Please don't drive more developers away with more gratuitous Hacker News "X-is-dying" bitching.
by the way, I think if Gnome had "done nothing" by continuing to incrementally develop Gnome2 instead of doing something entirely new with Gnome3 the same argument would be trooped out: "Look, Gnome isn't innovating, it doesn't have vision, it's just a Windows clone, blah blah blah"
