All the federated structure in the world doesn't matter if you don't have users. I think we're better off encouraging bluesky to finish what they're building, mastodon won't ever get there.
Works great, my device visited over 100 times already
edit: not only that, under past visits I can now see the ip address of other visitors, together with their rough location and browser setup. You may want to remove the "gdpr compliant" from the website :)
Thanks for pointing that out — we’ve corrected the display so no other visitors’ IPs or locations are shown. We take privacy seriously and have updated the site to reflect that.
Don’t worry, it was 0/2 in detecting my browser or OS, like not even close, and I don’t do anything to obfuscate that, so it’s probably accidentally compliant
It’s great that starlink is there, but it can still be shut down on the whim of its owner as seen in the past. So hurray for starlink! (unless the opportunistic tides of politics change)
I know you hate it, but X and Starlink are the only channels giving us information on Iran right now. If X was censored (like many leftists are advocating), we wouldn't know anything about those riots.
People rising against a regime that the left sympathizes with, obviously.
Iranians describing how Isam destroyed their country within one decade (the UK establishment is very unconfortable with that truth, for some reaslon...).
Iranians calling on Trump and thanking Elon. That tends to make leftists mad.
Being mad is one thing, but demanding X censor that speech is another. I'm not really involved in this debate so I haven't seen anything like that. Can you provide some examples of any prominent people on the left calling for X to censor that speech?
Starmer, T.Breton (former EU commissioner, the one who got denied VISA to the US going forward), google them with "X ban" and you'll have all the results you want.
Similar with many other EU political figures.
I see news articles about Starmer wanting to ban X for allowing deepfakes and sexualized images of children, which seems reasonable to me. Presumably if X took steps other companies have to prevent those images, the ban would be off the table.
As for T. Breton, it seems they're wanting X to abide by the EU's Digital Services Act, which requires transparency in how a company tries to combat disinformation among other things (protection of children's exposure to dangerous content being one of them).
Why is it so difficult for you to understand: we don’t want your x shit in Europe. Since when is the American president so concerned about the business of a single man, who’s an immigrant himself? Anna Paulina Luna, she’s a fucking immigrant too, or a daughter of one. You have all lost your mind there in the US. Why should we be even concerned with what you want if your leader is ready to send tanks because someone said “no”. Fuck people who think like you. Take your propaganda and kindly fuck off.
"We" ? The 100 million active users in Europe, making X one of the most downloaded app on the continent, probably beg to differ.
Again, typical socialism reflexes: you dont like X, so instead f just not using it, you feel like you need to send us the police to make us not use it...
PS: do you have short and blue hair ? Just a question, don't get too triggered.
You know, not everyone on this site has an absolutist binary opinion on the Elon. Some people can give him credit for what he gets right, while simultaneously calling bullshit on his bullshit.
Of course there’s exaggeration. Nobody really believes this person was kidnapped by the German train company.
People do get kicked off trains, usually it’s the entire train that is being emptied. Happened to me in NRW. Happened to me in Brandenburg. When there’s a problem with the train, then sometimes it has to be evacuated.
He would have not been entitled to a cab ride by the way, he was travelling with Deutschlandticket. Your entire comment is not only pedantic, it’s also completely wrong lol.
I only watched two talks. Talks are not why you go to CCC, in my opinion. I spent most of CCC talking. I tried to have some projects, but I just got stuck in conversation all the time.
CCC was to me the first time I had ever been to a place where most people were like minded. I have been searching for a place where I can meet likeminded people for many years, that wasn't online chatrooms. Once I got there, there was an almost immediate "wow this is my crowd".
It does help to have friends that are somewhat networked and can show you the way and introduce you to people though, as many just sit and hang out with their usual crowd. For me, I ended up talking to a lot of the guys from the same country. I also hung out with internet friends and met their friends. It was great.
What if it’s a small apartment, but the life is a significant albeit marginal improvement over life in a shelter? Would it make a difference if it were a shelter where animals are killed after a certain period without being adopted?
Please note that I’m on purpose phrasing this to be a bit contrarian. Not trying to rattle any cages (no pun intended), just found myself initially agreeing with you and then not being sure anymore.
I grew up with many cats, all outdoor. I have since known many cats that are kept indoor only. The indoor pets lead happier, less stressful lives. We tend to forget that it is a jungle out there, and even domestic animals have territorial fights and pecking orders. Indoor only cats live comparatively peaceful and stress free lives.
Zoo keepers sometimes experiment with giving their tigers or other big cats larger enclosures, but that can increase their stress because now they have a bigger territory to patrol.
Growing up my cat would get antsy and stressed if she hadn’t gone outside in a day. I can see how people can mistake this for needing space, but it wasn’t relaxing for her. She had to go out to remark her territory, and seek out any stray cats encroaching on her space. Noticeably very stressful for her! In the end when she couldn’t retainer her territory anymore, she went in fast decline.
I agree. I'm a firefox guy myself and it's been painful shifting my workload to chrome for testing + developing this. The extension has a lot of browser engine complexity (and unfortunately us non-chromium folks seem to be a dying breed) so I haven't been able to justify implementing cross-browser support yet. Hopefully soon!
Just some different fields in the manifest, and there are specifics that work completely different or are not available (for example favicons).
I have tried Chrome -> Firefox before and it was surprisingly easy. Safari is more difficult in my experience, it's missing complete API's like the bookmarks one.
It is definitely possible, but not straightforward. With Manifest V3, the only way you can do this stuff is with the browser userScripts API. That is the only way you can execute remote code within the browser (and each script is considered "remote code").
These changes are the reason many of the existing userscript managers stopped working/being developed after MV3 went live. It is a real pain in the butt and unfortunately the functionality is not exactly the same between chrome and the generic browser API that firefox uses. There are a lot of edge cases that make everything even more of a pain.
Life would be much better (in many ways) if chrome didn't force MV3 down our throats.
