What are some of the go-to books/articles for computer chess? I like the game and have a decent understanding of basics, so studying algorithms based on the game would be a good opportunity for me to learn conventional algos, but also RL/ML/MCTS etc. Also I wonder what is the go-to codebase these days?

https://www.chessprogramming.org/

Is the portal to go. From there, you can dig deeper in many relevant themes.

Stockfish and Leela are the two best engines and they’re both on GitHub. Although I will say they are hyperoptimized to win.

You can also ask any noob questions on their Discords.

How did you connect Kindle to your computer ?

It depends on the kindle. I had an old jailbroken kindle. Maybe that more modern ones work without jailbreaking.

I'd not mind frying some meats on a grill and celebrating, if anyone in Bay Area is interested. Having some Oxide folks would be awesome.

1) You can also restart the server for 1s every month to achieve the same. Probably unnecessary because there's probably more than 12 features/fixes a year you'll want to push anyway.

https://wordmogul.com -- publishing platform for $3/mo. Has focus on privacy and owning conent. Can act as Jekyll/Hugo GUI. You can export all posts as .md files and literally run Hugo on them. Has an AI assistant for content creation / post scheduling etc.

Goal: make $1kUSD/mo

Making $0 :-)

It looks nice, but.... Failed companies would be much more interesting. Everyone knows the successful companies.

I think both are important, but I appreciate the feedback.

I know there are a 'zeitgeist' of typical SV successful companies (Uber, Dropbox, etc) but we actually cover a ton of companies you've probably never heard of. We cover a lot of side hustles, side projects, agencies, e-commerce, and more too.

Please don't use hetzner for things like this, atleast for the public site proxy it with another VPS, Hetzner is strict on abuse and if it's against the law of another country it will be taken down.

Cool! I've never seen this kind of offering before.

What's the battery life like?

Do you mean to ask what the battery management functionality is like (i.e. does the battery drain noticeably faster using OpenBSD)?

If so, I don't know what it's like on the MacBook or MacBook Pro, but on my Mac Mini, I can reliably say that the battery life is dismal ;-)

> but on my Mac Mini, the battery life is dismal.

Possible typo? The Mac Mini does not have a battery.

That's why the battery life is so dismal.

No, no, that’s why the battery life is amazing!!!

It always does what I expect when I unplug it...

That mac /is/ going to run off the power stored in the PSU capacitors for a few (hundred?) ms after you unplug it.

Not sure on OpenBSD, but Asahi said they could get 6-8 hours without any real energy efficiency features enabled.

Is Red Shirt Jeff going to install it anytime soon?

That sounds like significantly lower number of hours than a MacOS..?

Key part is without any energy saving features. Once those are implemented it will improve. I am pretty sure MacOS has a number of energy saving features implemented.

Love this tool. Along with Golang's Excelize library I use it to build a bunch of tools

I'm a fan of Spolsky's writing. I haven't heard of that podcast before. I see joelonsoftware.com has some expired links. Where can I listen to this archived podcast ?

You have them on SoundCloud [1]. Note, there is a mess with numbering of episodes.
