Just recently had an issues with Booking.com. I made hotel and rental reservations through them for an event I went to. My car rental was for 11:00am, but my flight was delayed and I got to the car rental (Sixt) at 7:00pm. Sixt gave my car away and were sold out. Because I went through a third party, their policy is to reserve the car for an hour past the reserved time. Mind you, I prepaid for the car in full. I contacted Booking, and they said I had to wait until after the reservation return date to open a ticket for a refund. I did that, then they said I waited too long and they couldn’t confirm that my car was unavailable. I tried to escalate, they said our decision is final and the ticket is closed. They haven’t responded since.

Good to know, you're not the first I hear complaining about this.

I'm pretty sure that if you tell them that you're initiating a chargeback, it'll magically resolve itself.

How did they find F150’s selling for $35k new in 2023? If they’re comparing fleet model F150s either roll up windows to model Ys, that’s an incredibly unfair comparison. You would need to compare similar trim levels with comparable features to a model Y. An F150 with a higher trim has depreciation values similar to an electric vehicle.

I have so many memories as a kid have so much fun on these servers. You guys had the rogue with almost complete invisibility. I played dust2 WC3 mod so much, hiding in weird corners with a knife waiting for someone to walk around the corner hoping it wasn’t whatever class had 300hp.

I owe much of my career in tech to counter strike. I learned to manage servers hosting clan websites, security and programming making the sites and “borrowing” designs from Clan Templates or whatever the company was that had the awesome animated flash headers. I remember learning about IDORs and SQL injection, before I even knew what it was called.

I learned 3d modeling with MilkShape for custom skins and models. Made dozens of surf maps and a few KZ. The AMX Mod community was so helpful learning to program. I think it was Small to write mods.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. That was a pivotal moment in my life. I learned how to control a computer and found my passion.

Sounds similar to what Tim Berners-Lee was working on with Solid (https://solidproject.org/about).

Didn’t the Firefox DevTools team get pretty hard with layoffs?

They did, unfortunately. But the rest of the Firefox group was left mostly intact.

So this is this solution they’re offering after purchasing Nanobox? I wish it had more feature parity because this is a bit of let down after a year of waiting for what they with do with the Nanobox tech.

I thought the original intent was to help prevent phishing. If you have to enter you username on the initial page, the subsequent page could then present you with your profile picture and name. That would then condition the user to look for it. I have no evidence to validate that, but just how I thought it was designed to work.

All of the other comments seem to have much more logical explanations, like SSO and OAuth options.

Pinebook Pro. I use it for this exact purpose. Small, portable, cheap, and relatively durable. I keep it in the truck while I’m on call in case I need to jump in and fix things on the go.

Going to check it, thanks for the recommendation!

As a parent of a soon-to-be three year old, I can relate. I’ve been thinking a lot about this exact issue. I’ve become aware of how horrible I am at staying “present” with him when we’re playing. I’m seriously struggling with the guilt that when I’m playing with him, I’m always thinking about other things (work, personal interests, chores, etc.)

Just a few days ago, I had a bit of a break through though. We went outside and played in the mud, found bugs, climbed a tree, and made a tire swing. If I wasn’t inside, I had a much easier time blocking out all the distractions. It might not be STEM by today’s standards, but I feel like he learned a whole more than a screen could teach him at this age. Honestly, I learned a lot about myself in the 3 hours we spent hanging out and being a kid again.

I don’t want it to seem like this is the first time that I’ve gone out and played with my kids outside or anything. It’s just the first time I’ve gone about it and become aware of all of these feelings.

It’s tough to write or even talk about this because the stigma of today’s society on raising kids in the era of iPads and YouTube. I feel that there’s an expectation that our generation is going to raise our kids with screens glued to their faces. Every piece of me wants to make sure that doesn’t happen to my kids. But I feel awful that I lack the interest when it comes to playing with kids toys.

TLDR: I took him outside and played. Lol.

Vice? Looks great on mine.

On desktop/chrome, it almost gave me a seizure, as the Twitter video element is "shaking" ever so slightly, and when scrolled more down, the rest of the page elements where shaking/vibrating too. Definitely altered my psyche, which is interesting.
