I’ve sat with 5MeO-DMT over a dozen times, always in the form of Bufo flake from the toad. It has been one of the most transformational and healing modality I’ve encountered. I have a low dose Jaguar (synthetic) pen that I use occasionally.
I’ve also used NN from a pen. It gave me a strange body load and intense kaleidoscopic visuals.
This. I work as a professional photographer. Nikon shooter. I only ever import directly from my camera in very rare cases. And when I have a problem importing directly from card to Lightroom, first step is to copy everything to the hard drive and import from there.
This may be a varying mileage kind of situation. I have an OM1 and basically only ever transferred pictures with the camera's connection. I don't have the fastest SD cards, and the transfer speed I get is the same as my dedicated Sandisk SD card reader, around 100 MB/s.
My older camera only had a usb 2 connection over a special connector, so I used to pop out the card. But the OM1 can also charge the battery via the usb-c connection, so it's an all-round great experience: I don't have to fiddle with random parts, not forget to put them back in, etc.
Never had a single image corrupted among dozens of thousands of them. Funnily enough, my older camera used to complain about the SD card every other time after plugging it into my mac. It would shut up after a format. That card is still going strong.
I transfer the files with lightroom (but don't remove them from the card) on a windows pc.
I'm no longer even a semi-pro photog, but these days I even just plug in a USB-C SD reader into my iPhone and upload them that way, it's quite nice really. No corruption yet for me, but I only shot a thousand photos on my trip to Italy, and few other than that these days!
Fortunate. I remember when an SD card reader would NOT work on an iPhone, and yet the same device and iOS on the iPad would work. Obviously on purpose.
I’m an old Unix guy. Files are files. Card to computer. Process later.
Totally agree! I started with the GIANT Legos in the mid 70's then we got the smaller ones. I used to spend hours with about eight different shapes trying to make something interesting. Sort of like the modern Froebel blocks.
I've been almost completely off social media (and candy - potentially a larger problem in the past for me) for a month other than to check once or twice a day to see if somebody has messaged me (rarely) and it really has been rather profound to experience life with the lack of regular hits of dopamine. It is such a subtle "drug". I've still been on a computer and surfing the web but not nearly the same amount of time as I was spending on my phone and social. I sat a ten day Vipassana course in 2016 - a profound experience that was at least an order of magnitude more impactful with regard to being off of "screens". There's definitely a cost that accompanies any perceived benefits of social media interaction. As in all things - balance!
If it were somehow formalized, I’d be 0% surprised to see that HN is particularly bad from a distraction point of view. Other sites, I know with perfect certainty that I am going there to waste time. Here, there is a chance that I’ll actually come across something legitimately useful.
It is like Pavlov’s bell—the important part being the randomness, of course.
I always find it funny to see, on any social media site, “I’ve quit almost all social media sites, except this one.” Well, we have successfully identified which one was most addictive I guess.
SWIM may or may not have confided to me experiences with a variety of compounds purported to induce a wide range of subjective internal experiences upon their various methods of consumption. At any rate, I've certainly read (and donated to) Erowid.
Not OC, and I've never tried psychedelics, but even a strong fever will make you hallucinate, and I've had a couple of those. You mind closes up into itself, and the world it creates, while extremely simplistic, feels very real.
