And their service is trash, technically speaking. I sometimes sit down with a burrito and pick a show and wonder if I’m going to finish the burrito before the show actually starts playing. It’s embarrassing. There’s a lot to hate about Netflix but they are highly competent when it comes to the perf of the UI and the streaming.
* unless you are one of those weirdo's who has a black on white terminal in which case you should be on a watch list (/s in case wasn't immediately obvious).
I've been there since the DOS days when it was all dark mode, green phosphor characters on a black CRT. I was there when amber monitors were the new thing. (I still love sunglasses with brown lenses.) And I watched the early Apple computers with graphics and black-characters-on-white display style that has been the rage ever since... well since the recent new thing being dark mode.
It reminds me of fashion trends, miniskirts then maxis, up and down past the knee like tides.
You just gotta get used to a knee jerk “you’re open sourcing wrong” reaction you’re gonna get from a community of people who are accustomed to it all being done in a certain way (namely, that it’s generally open and copyable without interaction with -gasp- humans). You’re doing fine and your responses have been perfect imo.
I also approve of the cleverness. Correct choice not to pass it up.
I also have a soft spot for typography weenies, and appreciation for well thought out typography in an age when it seems like it’s becoming rarer and rarer. Great to see this on HN.
“Display with 4 stack levels” would accurately describe the hp 48 series, which had a screen that could show the top 4 things on the stack, but the stack itself had much larger capacity (maybe limited by memory? I can’t remember).
I’m still clinging to my 3rd gen SE. My daughter had one too, but was forced to get a new phone recently because she had destroyed the old one. Got talked into a 13 mini and now I never stop hearing about how much of a pain in the ass FaceID is compared to TouchID. When Apple finally takes my button away I’ll probably go to android.
Note: the other thing I like about the SE is it was comparatively cheap. I will never get close to spending $1000 on a phone. Apple doesn’t want me anymore.
