No, it's to remove dollars every month from the pockets of people who THINK they see a lot of movies, but in reality don't. Just like Costco or any other membership-based wholesaler depend on people having the illusion of value in bulk when in reality a lot of people probably break even or come out worse, when waste is factored in.

As a disconnected aside, I'm a bit sad my first exposure to Jerry Pournelle was when he was a guest on This Week in Tech podcasts. By the time I picked them up, he certainly was long in years and I felt he rambled more than made coherent points. In prime, he would have been great to hear from every few weeks on technology news.

I didn't have the time to wait in line every few weeks to turn in my recyclables in LA so I put them all in a bag next to the dumpster for the complex. I didn't start doing this until after I noticed the dumpster divers were coming anyways.

Doubtful, the other players wouldn't be in any different scenario than they were before Amazon tried this.

Sewell is directly quoted as saying cellular "isn't as important as it used to be." When they thought 3.5mm TRS wasn't as important as it used to be they cut it. Seems like cellular is perhaps still more crucial to the viability of the phone than they want to admit.

Commander Keen 4 and Duke Nukem 2 with a Gravis joystick of some description.

We got Keen 4 bundled with this Gravis joystick: http://mocagh.org/forsale/gravis-back.jpg

I played Keen exclusively with a joystick for years and was pretty good at it. If you sat me down with the exact same joystick I could probably still play pretty well, but the much looser feel of a modern joystick would screw me up. When my brother and I would play Keen, we'd make the plastic on the joystick case creak from the frantic maneuvering!

Yes, that's the one! You could even screw this little stick into the d-pad and use it like a joystick, or like me, as a child you just broke it off in the hole and never told mom.

Wife and I just closed on our home - good thing this didn't happen DURING the process as we got a ton of DocuSign requests.

Interesting, that's nowhere near the level of insurance (it's significantly higher) than what even non-cut-rate insurers will recommend for most drivers in the states. After changing providers, we pay $1400 for two cars with $100,000/$300,000 (individual/total) injury and $100,000 in property coverage.

I think a big difference in the US is that there's usually no fault for personal injury, so the liability is pooled.

I would not recommend going to 257 with the intention of having a good time playing arcade games. Their selection is fairly limited. As the name implies, it's good if you just want Pac-Man games, and mediocre for much else.

It's definitely not on the level of Galloping Ghost, for sure. It's more of a place you go to if you want to do a mixture of bowling, food, and (Namco) games.

The US has plenty of existing immigration detention centers: https://www.ice.gov/detention-facilities.

Not really big enough for millions of people, though.

And I'd love to see how the already-hysterical US media would respond to the sudden building of prison camps big enough for millions.

How do you think they'd respond to government-sanctioned beatings as punishment?
