100% this. I used to be a "digital native". I guess I have migrated away from my native lands and now I am a boring old local again.

I am German and the three times I took an ICE from Cologne to Berlin and then back, EACH TIME I boarded at a wrong wagon. The entire system, their app, the signages at the tracks... it is all complete and utter dogshit.

I recently bought a XXL set for my almost 2yr old daughter... I don't get the hype. I think that the magnets are just not strong enough, so the structures that I was able to build are always super weak and would collapse if you just look at them from a funny angle...

Usual PSA: Don't wait for a cure for Alzheimers. Work towards not getting it in the first place. Alzheimers is "brain diabetes". You get it from consuming sugars and carbs. It can be easily avoided.

What a ridiculous statement. By your logic, anyone with alzheimer’s got it from eating sugars and carbs and simply didn’t choose to avoid it.

Sugars and carbs also keep you alive. Please keep your mortality neurosis to yourself.

Wow. Very cool to see one of Joan's posts here on HN. I have discovered his videos on Youtube half a year ago and every single time I think to myself "wow, what a banger". No idea if he uses AI to craft his scripts, but every single time I feel like he brings his arguments across extremely eloquently. Such a joy to listen to.

And of course one of the top comments is... shitting on the way this is written. HN never changes.

Is the UX even the issue with these competitors? The cost for bandwidth and storage and having fast enough servers is the real issue here.

I wonder how did we get to this scientific age of magic and wonder and technology when people had nothing but pen & paper. Hell, for 10,000 years before that, we didn't even have pen & paper. Where did all those amazing thoughts go??

Also, I'm counting the days until the battery in one of those things bulges while someone is on an airplane... again...

Classic Vitalik logic. A giant mountain of word salad and he still somehow magically fails to name the fifth and most important group: Scammers.

Because he is only talking about categories that can contribute to the system. [Scammers] do not. In so far as the system and the diagram is concerned, [scammers] are to be thwarted and their harmful effects mitigated. A lot of the work done in crypto is security which is entirely about thwarting [scammers]. As an example, The original bitcoin paper on double-spending problem is devoted to securing against a particular type of scam.

Speculators fall in a gray area and need to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. many of them are straight up scams, Some are legit, and the rest are in between. Stratton Oakmont was a scam. Does that mean your index-fund is also one? Or the stock market and financial system as a whole?

It is very plainly visible that society has not been benefited much from the public service of many of those people. In fact, it has declined dramatically.
