What we see so far is that large amounts of repeat attack do stem from the same ip:s, so shutting them down should lessen the overall amount of abusive traffic on the net as well as repeat abuse against your server(s).

For now, the service is completely free so we hope that server admins all over the world are willing to do large scale reporting of network abuse against their servers and that it will mean a decrease in abusive traffic. In the long run that would make it less viable to carry out these forms of attacks and lessening spam would certainly be something that benefitted everyone.

As a thanks for helping out with the reporting we also try to provide these server admins with some security tips which relate directly to their servers.

We believe it is time to stand up to the hackers and spammers which is why we try to encourage people to be good netizens and report the abusive network traffic to their web servers.

Just CC your Logwatch reports to us and we will make sure the failed hacking attempts get reported to the appropriate ISP.

The argument made against Kurzweil could surely be made about anyone who makes claims about the future.

I do find some of Kurzweil's far out predictions kind of fun though, and I have a habit of checking on them every few years to see how he's doing.

Here's a list of some of them:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predictions_made_by_Ray_Kurzwei...

At least now that he's head of engineering at Google he might have a chance of making his predictions about robot servants and intelligent glasses come true.

Which is precisely why predictions are generally wrong, and sometimes even dangerous.

At first I thought it was intentionally done for demonstration purposes, but now I'm just confused about the site.

The author is using rawgithub.com to serve javascript files, but it seems that they serve 'erroneous' files when used too much.

It's actually kinda funny, they even go up to redefine some Javascript variables such as Infinity[1].

Did the addiction have anything to do with the fact that you are a software developer?

Good advice, but I doubt that developers would be especially prone to alcoholism.

For me, the big one missing would be Skype. There seems to be a command line client called Clisk though, so perhaps that might be worth checking out.

Great tool! I found out about it just now from the article.

Any thoughts of cross platform compatibility for the future? I find one of the best features of KeePass is the fact that it can be used on all my computers (even the ones not running Linux).

A beta version probably should be free due to it being a non-finished product.

On my current project (https://report4me.com) we're trying the free beta model not only to get beta testers but also to determine a price point.

We give away the product to beta users for the foreseeable future, with the intent to ask them outright what they feel the product would be worth. The idea is that since they can feel comfortable that they won't actually have to pay the price they mention they might actually be more honest about it.

Falling asleep in an office chair in front of a computer sounds even less healthy

Oh it is. You'll start having constant neck and back pains. Maybe a nicer chair would help. The worst thing is falling asleep in the office with those damn fluorescent lights on. I'm glad I stopped doing that.
