That first run is pretty interesting because they clearly had the foresight to make things morally grey and the villians human. It's very clear they added some mustache twirling villiany to a few episodes as an afterthought. It's not even clear until like the last dozen episodes that Zeon is evil.

I know Gundam quality is a huge spectrum, but the 'sloppiness' of moral ambiguity in the first one is pretty great. Way too often (Z Gundam) they just do a timeskip and say "what if the good guys became bad after they won?"

> It's not even clear until like the last dozen episodes that Zeon is evil.

Zeon is literally portrayed as eugenicist Nazis early in the show. They literally chant "Sieg Zeon!" while saluting. Literally the very first episode shows Zeon dropping a space colony on Earth, essentially nuking a major population center (and says half the civilian population dies in the war.)

It's pretty clear Zeon is evil. What's unclear initially is that it was the Zabi family that made it evil.

Originally, Zeon was an idealistic movement by an essentially leftist philosopher (Zeon Deikun) whose work was co-opted by a militant autocratic family (the Zabi family). The leftist guy gets assassinated, and a big part of the series is watching his son, Char (the primary antagonist of the show) trying to take down the Zabi's while fighting for independence from the Federation.

It will be a withdrawal of US troops and bases with a wink wink. And nothing but impeachment can compel the president to actually respond to an article V call.

Actually i think it's the bottom fifth that have benefited the most from wage growth, with the low-six figure crowd getting the short end of the stick and having to pay more for burgers with the tight service labor market.

Yes, and it appears the non-college folks in the suburbs (who've been having to pay more for their burgers) were the biggest shift this election, not the burger flippers themselves.

What is all the honor and glory in the world weighed against the siren's call of being a poster that people find funny?

He could have kept posting without buying the company.

This is why the groupon CEO's firing letter remains undefeated

After four and a half intense and wonderful years as CEO of Groupon, I've decided that I'd like to spend more time with my family. Just kidding – I was fired today. If you're wondering why ... you haven't been paying attention.

You weren't kidding!

> I'm OK with having failed at this part of the journey. If Groupon was Battletoads, it would be like I made it all the way to the Terra Tubes without dying on my first ever play through.

You sharing this made it the 6th most read article on the guardian today as of right now

Thanks for pointing that out, now it's 5th!

WTH? How much traffic is this thread getting or alternatively, how little traffic does the guardian get?

not a lot usually. "popular" places like the guardian are way less visited than you might think. In a similar vein a best seller book is only 5000 - 10000 books.

Pour one out for Andrew. They did many things that didn't scale that customers loved them for, and then couldn't scale. They burned lots of cash on outside sales, i.e., flying a rep from another city to visit a potential client small restaurant. And being a publicly-traded company is often more trouble than it's worth.

PS: I used to live in a van on the street near the PA HQ. Someone there had a tiny trailer in the parking lot but I couldn't tell if were living it or just storing it.

thanks for sharing, fantastic letter

and there was a crazy freaky 3d test Easter egg found just 2 years ago for the first time. https://youtu.be/BvGC5dJg3E8

Im guessing an IC position? Still, being that senior I'd expect he's in quite a few meetings. I would love to hear how he manages his schedule and comes up with novel excuses.

If he really is coding 90% of the time though, more power to him.

There are some strategies one can use, e.g. work for one company on the East coast and one on the West, then being an early starter at the first one and late starter at the second one. Perhaps have some known medical issue that occasionally requires skipping some meetings if there is a conflict. I am honestly monitoring him and I hope he'll share his stories, tips and close calls for some added amusement. He's definitely using two computers to keep any monitoring system at bay.

They might if other channels aren't saturated and things are still in flux. Kanye was unbanned yesterday. Do you think he's going to behave better or worse than before? If he behaves worse then that's another headline, another news cycle about whether he should be banned or not.

Right now the trend is advertisers getting more spooked because of unpredictability and Musk being unable to reassure them in calls he has been reported to have been on. I expect this trend to continue
