There are many types of fundamental VCS tools for software development. Those have become keystone in the history of open source software, large-scale projects (Linux...).

But what if we consider hardware development? It seems hard to document all materials and machine setting (other than circuit scheme) into data. Although wiki-like platform helped several large projects, such as RepRap, we still have no suitable tools for building process.

Is that a problem for most makers?
