Tell HN: You can't recover AWS access

If you have an AWS account that for some reason you lost access to (losing access to the mail attached or to the second factor auth number) then you are lost.

In the site, they tell you to call their support number: 1-206-577-1364

But this number is not available. And it seems like it isn't available for months at list, from searching the internet:

https://twitter.com/opethftw/status/1429019949377507329 (Aug 21', Amazon tells him to try again. This doesn't work)

https://www.reddit.com/r/amazonprime/comments/nzlqpl/customer_service_numbers_dont_work/ (Jun 21')

You might find yourself locked out of an account draining your bank, with no one helping you.

I love that tech companies have such a failure of support that Hacker News is literally the only outlet. It's crazy that we've hit this stage of oligopoly, back in the 90s, we could just cut a company with terrible customer support loose, but now there's too much corporate lock in

How about jeff@amazon (or the new CEO's email)? That has sometimes worked.

I thought they were customer obsessed lmao

A version of this happened to me too, but luckily the reason I was trying to login is my account was being shut down because my credit card had expired.

I was able to get through to tech support, but their mechanism for unlocking my account was horrible. I still owe them some trivial amount (<$100), but the tech support team said they had no way to bill me for it unless I could log back in.

So at least it's biting them both ways.

Isn’t it how it’s supposed to work?

I don’t want hackers recover my account by social engineering.

Change your bank card and restart your services.
