Editors were crufty and basic
Build tools were low functioning and extremely obscure. Graphics were limited and handling color was hard. Fonts were a dark art as was sound. Even basic libraries had lots of gotchas and the common to interface library at the time was Motif which was full of bugs and leaks. Management such as issue tracking was often absent--not even much trickle, let alone a waterfall. And pretty much all interviews were leetcode based. Maybe my experience was odd but it seems strange so many have found memories of such primative circumstances.
