Hackathons are (if any) for people in their 20s with no family/kids. For me companies doing hackathons is a red flag.

Company hackathons are rarely 24hr affairs and more "don't do your normal work during working hours"

My daughter (second child) was born 4 days after I started at Artsy. Some of the best new ideas came from hackathons.

Can't see the link between the two statements.

I worked at artsy in my 30s, and participated in many hackathons.

Whether companies do hackatons, beer pong or whatever is irrelevant.

What's relevant is whether being part of those is a discriminating factor for your career.
