Loved this write up, there is definitely way too much dismissal within the HN community of anyone who questions whether or not we're on the right path forwards with AI, we're mostly tech == good, just do it faster.

Mostly though, I think the narrative that we should just let the AI industry progress at breakneck speed because the benefits just outweigh the risks by default is highly dangerous and "unintelligent" way forwards.
I think this idea that everything should and will just by default be handed over to AI is actually a fallacy. The argument that if we don't race for the horizon, other countries will...well of course other countries will pursue AI if America is leading the charge?
