I chose the ThinkPad Z13 Gen1 as my Linux laptop
If the ctrl and fn key positions bother you on other ThinkPads, my T14 has an option to swap them in the BIOS, and I imagine many other models do to. The model in the article can probably swap them back.

They all offer this, but the key labels (obviously) don’t change, so it’s still a plus to buy one with the layout that’s “correct” to you.

The size of the buttons also don't change. The main reason why i don't decide for a thinkpad as my working machine.

Not on every Thinkpad. On a T14s the FN and Ctrl keys have different sizes.
