Just before anyone thinks this is some kind of Theranos-sounding nightmare:

We've done point-of-care blood testing for a long time. The i-STAT from Abbott has been one of the gold standards for emergent testing requirements in emergency rooms and beyond.

For more on the general i-STAT: https://www.globalpointofcare.abbott/us/en/product-details/a...

For more on the TBI cartridge: https://www.globalpointofcare.abbott/us/en/product-details/a...

(Can I mention it is an utter pain to link the ancient i-STATs to literally anything?)

One of the biggest issues with Theranos was that they were trying to do a multitude of tests with a small amount of blood in a single automated machine. This machine isn't claiming to do more than one thing.

Its not, it uses a well specified and widely used protocol.

Of course that sucks for some use cases, but as far as medical devices go, its not bad.

saw the headline and came to say that this is some new version of Theranos... thanks for sharing this detail !

Wow, I had thought TBI's could only be diagnosed on autopsy, but I guess that's CTE which is different. Does CTE mean lingering effects from TBI's? Can TBI's if treated early enough be prevented from leading to CTE?

Elizabeth? Is that you?
