Ask HN: Why no geofence synced DND?

Why doesn’t Apple and Google make a default mode where when the phone enters specified geofences (such as schools, church, concerts, theaters) that the phone enters Do Not Disturb? I would assume you could disable for specific apps or phone calls if you are an on call doctor or what not, but for most people this would be appreciated?

What if someone drives through these geofences? E.g. driving past a church or waiting at a pedestrian crossing close (but within) a school zone.

Other than that, I am pretty sure you can already achieve this feature without relying on 3rd party apps by using Apple's 'Shortcuts' app. Granted, this is based on location with a circular radius and not a custom shaped geofence.

I am thinking of making the general populace follow common courtesy so less phones ringing in school or church etc.

All phones have GPS, I assume we can make pretty well defined geofences without worrying about passerbys

Probably because lots of companies make a lot of money delivering "disturbances" to peoples phones.
