Are there really people who think that AI is on the verge of manifesting consciousness? I feel like this is a strawman argument over marketing nonsense.
Some of the folks like Lemoine are sort of relying on a fringy definition of "conscious" or engaging in semanic arguments. Btu maybe he really beleives it. Who knows what evil lies in the hearts of men?
