Somehow I got a BS and MS in computer science without taking a single compilers course, and I've regretted it.
I recently saw someone make a comment along the lines of "I'm a web developer, why would I ever want to learn about compilers?" Many people seem to think compilers are just programs like gcc that turn a language like C into machine code, but that's really just one kind of compiler.
